Four Steps to Handle a Bad Boss

Most of us face a lousy boss always yelling at employees, totally strict, undervaluing our efforts and always highlighting our weaknesses. It really demoralizes us encouraging searching for better opportunities, but what happens?

We face same situation under different office culture. So is there any way to handle rude boss effectively? During my entire career, I have come across various demoralizing bosses and learned that they provide numerous opportunities to upgrade our man management skills and leadership skills. This is called blessing in disguise.

You need to be proactive in identifying opportunities amidst frustration, pressure and heavy workload.  Most of us don’t quit the job due to heavy workload, but due to negative environment and lackluster management. Same routine, lack of motivation and poor man management lead to depression. The only way to handle a bad boss is to work him out and manage. Don’t consider him as a boss, treat him/her like a customer of client and find out the loop holes in order to impress him converting leads into sales.

So here are four steps to handle a complex boss:-

Put yourself in boss shoes

To understand your boss state of mind, put yourself in the boss shoes and identify the driving factors in his life. Find out his core values, concerns and priorities keeping him awake entire day. Likewise frame your opinions about him. When we use any appliance, the first thing we do is reading the user manual. Why not follow the same criteria with boss?

Stand with them during good times, but sort out their weaknesses

Stand with your boss during the good and bad times spotlighting his strengths, but also examining his weakness, then help him out in fixing the weaknesses and backing him up.

Keep your mind on performance, not bad boss

Your boss bad behavior should not be an excuse for poor performances. Normally employees give up and lose hope after bad behavior. Let your performance do the talking, don’t react trying to match your boss anxiety.

Be proactive

Do proper research in understanding the behaviour, habits and preferences of the boss. Don’t wait for boss orders, start working on the project and wait for your boss approval.
